Time to start the thread.
Richard has not been looked upon with mercy by the gods of the draw, but I am suspicious about so called easy draws. For Melbourne he will know that he'll have to be up the job right in round one. Richard plays on Tuesday, allez! |

| And generally, when Richard looses a match he should'nt have lost, he comes back with a strong spirit of revenge ! So hope he will offer us some...S[ep]pinach purée ! |

Even after Richard had lost the second set, I never had the feeling he could lose this match. His serve was better than Seppi's throughout and he had a good balance between attack and defense. There was a moment of panic when he got medical treatment, but strangely enough, he played his best tennis thereafter. The fourth set was really good with some crushing forehands. Good luck against Golubev!
edit: French sources report a muscle contraction/tension (I am bad with English medical terms) which he got in Sydney. But he is quoted saying it is better now. |

Morning all! good to awake and find Richard won his match against Seppi - so I will be in a good mood for the day. Yes, looking forward to the next match and hopefully he will pull thru this one also. Amazing, I went on the AO site to check the outcome of the match/interview etc and found nothing in relation to Richard "only the scoreboard"- that dissapointed me and I was going to tell them off on the comments page but had to get to work. I suppose, I want to see his win all over the front page and an interview after the match would also have been nice.
Well, got to get to work but good luck to Richard and all us fans for the next match - Go Richard Go. |

| Well done Richard. I also love his new shirt colour, and him having his cap on backwards! I noticed at one stage in the second set he seemed agitated and spoke to the umpire. Any idea what happened there? |

According to what I saw, a disagreement about a call. There is no hawk-eye on Court 2.
I occasionally had a feeling that some calls were dubious, but it concerned both players. The foot-fault guy was awake, though, he called Richard three times. |

| Ah Richard! Thanks for that Puschkin. It seems by the end of the match Richard was taking a step in the right direction. |

| I wasn't able to watch the match but good to see Richard win in 4 sets. I actually prefer him to be stretched out a bit in these early rounds but not too much that he'd lose it eventually. Anyway, good luck for the next match and I hope whatever problems he has with his muscle just go away and evaporate. |

I haven't seen the match neither...But it's good to see him win against players like Seppi.
I hope next match will be easy for Richard (and it could, I don't think Golubev should be a problem), before the third round which should be a tough one.. |

I saw some few points at the beginning of the match against Seppi. Richard was rather passive from those points I saw. Not sure if he stepped it up in the 3rd or 4th sets?.....But I'm glad he got through. I hope he improves his play in the next round.
btw, I love the shirt color . never seen that color on him before. it complements with the AO blue color. |

| Great result today, even with the retirement. Love the winner unforced error ratio for Richard- 33:10. Although, he is injured. Whilst Tipsaveric is a tough opponent, I think if Richard, concentrates and plays well, he could cause an upset. |

If I might add, I found this.

How do you approach your next turn against Janko Tipsarevic? He plays well and is very strong. It is the ninth world and he deserves his place because he has made big results at the end of the season. I have to do a big game to beat, but I know I can. "

Thanks Civ3 for posting the interview. I am very happy Richard is through to the 3rd round and hopefully will go to the 4th round this year. I have decided not to say anything until each match is over. Of course, I want Richard to go thru so wish him the best of luck in the next round and hopefully it will be shown at a decent time so I do not miss it.
I saw a little of his match today - just the end of the second set and beginning of the third. I was so happy to see him through to the 3rd .
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Richard. |

Yes LOVE the shirt!
As for his tennis, couldn't really tell anything from the Goulbev match. HIs opponent was an error machine. BUT those types of players are dangerous for Richard who can loose his intensity and focus quickly in a situation such as that. So good job for keeping focus.
Thanks for posting the interview civ - like his attitude. He's right; he will have to play VERY well to beat Tipsy BUT he certainly can do it.
Good Luck Richard!! |
