| A great draw for Richard. Now I hope he has a hunger to do well and is reinvigorated for this important part of the season! Richard, take each match very seriously! |

Yes, a great draw for Richard! The question is, can he take advantage?

| Good to know he's getting a feel of the clay playing doubles. Off topic but do people think he will compete at the Olympics? |

If he qualifies, then yes. He still needs to catch up on Benny though. |

| Go Richard for your next match! How far off is he? Would a final or win in Estoril put him back in contention? |

Very good win after the long break, 20 UEs, 24 winners:
3 aces
7 FHs
4 BHs
5 volleys
3 smashes
1 drop shot.
I miss one as I did not see the first 2 games. |

| Great score! How well did he play? Or was it a case of a weak opponent? |

A bit of both, but in the past Richard sometimes struggled against weaker opponents by being too passive. This was not the case yesterday. The number of winners says it clearly. He was out there to win and he did it in style. |

Undefeated in clay court season so far - 1 singles win and he and ERV are in the semis in doubles (2 wins)
It would be great for Richard to start the best part of his year - clay and grass with a title but i know better than to say something like that! However given his draw he BETTER at least be in the final and actually does have a good change at a title because Delpo or Stan are certainly beatable on clay.
as for Olympics, he is curently the 5th Frenchman and would have to move ahead of Benneteau who hurt his elbow when he fell in MOnte Carlo and not sure when he will return. I hate to wish ill on Benny because
I really like him too and he has worked very hard to move up the rankings after being out with another injury for a long time last year.
IT still is hard for me to accept that Richard is the #5 Frenchman but unfortunaltely that is where I think he belongs based on play the last 6-7 months. Hope he gets fired up and moves back to #2 or #3 Frenchie - Hate to say it but I just don't see him being able to play at a CONSISTENTLY high enough, uninjured level to claim #1 Frenchie - would love to be wrong though.
ALLEZ RIChard and PLEASE stay healthly!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Great to hear that Puschkin! I do hope he maintains this standard of play. Perhaps it would be advantageous to lose their next doubles match? To focus more on singles? |

Kohu - it's awful that Richard is the 5th top French player right now, but like you said that is where he belongs right now. This is also hard for me to swallow as I have always seen Richard as the best and, when not the top, given excuses as to why not. Anyway, he is doing great in Estoril "I'm worried even saying this, because when I do he nearly always loses next round" and I hope he keeps this level of tennis up. I'm also hoping to see some of his match today as have not seen him play for awhile now. Also, he is doing great in doubles as saw he took out the 3rd seeds yesterday.
Good luck Richard - always wish you the best. I know I've not been on here for some time but always do follow the news on Richie - always a fan, even if I have been dissapointed lately with his progress. |

Gasquet def. De La Nava - 7/6 (7/1) 6/2
I only watched the 1st set, it wasn't the best performance from Richard, was too passive for most of the set. Nava did break Richard for a 4/3 lead but he got broken back in the next game.
1st SF of the season for Richard and he faces Albert Ramos. This will be the 3rd tournament in a row where Richard has played Ramos with the last 2 being in Indian Wells & Miami.
Allez! |
