Richard reached the quarterfinals in Dubai defeating Sergej Bubka 6-2 7-5.
Two breaks ensured that Richard won the first set rather comfortably 6-2. However, Bubka manged an early break and served for the set at 5-3. Richard achieved the rebreak and marched on to close out the set 7-5. His next opponent is his compatriote Gilles Simon.
