Richard had only one day to recover from his Toronto final before playing Milos Raonic in the first round of Cincinnati.
He lost 6-7 3-6. During the first set, had the upper hand, but played a poor breaker with three unforced errors. One lose game from Richard in the second set was enough for the huge-serving Canadian to ensure victory. Richard had his chances in this match, but he lacked a bit of freshness in crucial situations, no wonder he has played almost daily since the Olympics started, including all the travelling. He can enjoy now a well-deserved rest, followed by preparations for the US Open.
