Gasquet has overcome a windy day in Nottingham, to advance to the quarter finals, and continue with his title defence. Richard defeated Bracciali 7-5, 6-3.
Before the match, Richard commented that he is free from pain now, and is keen to play a lot of tournaments.
The wind paid a major part in this match, at times causing wild shots from both players. Richard had the chance of a break twice in the early stages of the set, but Bracciali fought to hold on to his serve. Richard continued to play solid tennis treating fans to some exquisite shots off his backhand. At 6-5, with Bracciali serving, it was a Gasquet trademark backhand down the line which too his second his second break point in the game to take the first set 7-5.
The second set saw both players showing us some stunning shots as they fought against the conditions. Bracciali put the disappointment of the first set behind him and had an early break point on tee Gasquet serve. The Frenchman however saved this and went on to play a wonderful love service game. The game continued on serve until at 4-3, when Gasquet held three break points on Bracciali's serve. Gasquet was able to capitalise, despite playing safe tennis to compensate for the wind. Richard then served out the match to love to win 7-5, 6-3 and set up a meeting with Giles Simon on the quarter finals on Thursday.
After the match Richard said, "A good win today, a good win on grass."
"I played better than yesterday and am really happy to win the match." Gasquet said the "wind was not a problem. I like to play with the wind."
"I really happy to be in the quarters tomorrow, (but) it's always difficult to play against a frenchman."
Talking about the World Cup, Richard said he was disappointed with France, and he thinks Argentina will win.
