Richard defeated Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia in the Bucharest quarterfinals 6-7
6-1 6-1.
Richard started off much better than yesterday and hold his service games easily in the first set, but Gabasvili did the same, so a breaker had to decide. Richard went up with a minibreak, when a rainshower interrupted play. But after only a short pause, the match continued. Richard wasted his lead twice with a volley and a smash error and lost the tie-break
6-8 on a net cord ball from Gabashvili.However, the closely lost first set, seemed to inspire him. He improved his returns and Gabasvili got more and more impatient, accumulating errors. Richard ran away with the set 6-1.
The third set was a copy of the second, Richard was two breaks up immediately. Even if Gabashvili got one of the breaks back, Richard was unstoppable and broke him again to win the set 6-1.
