After almost two months Richard returned to competitiive tennis in Bercy. In the first round he defeated the dangerous South-African giant Kevin Anderson 6-4 7-6. In the second round he lost to Roger Federer 2-6 4-6.According to French news, he will play a small tournament in Caen (France) mid December, before moving down under, where he will play the Hopman Cup with Marion Bartoli to start his 2012 campaigne.
It was a great pleasure to see Richard live in Paris. He played well against Anderson, showing great agility and speed.
Against Roger Federer, who was in huge form on that day (75 % first serves in), his lack of match practise, particularly on serve, showed. But he demonstrated his fighting spirit, coming back after a break in the second set with some stunning forehands. It was the serve, which let him down at 3 all and Roger did not let this advantage slip.
Richard seemed pleased with his performance after his ellbow injury and was smiling and joking in the press conference.
