After a first-round bye, Richard defeated Martin Klizan in the second round of Montreal. His next opponent will be Kei Nishikori.
It was a slow start. In the first few games, the match was all about the Slovak, hitting both winners and errors. Richard had to fend off breakpoints in two of his service games, but was very efficient when chances opened up to him. He broke in the fifth game and served outt the set 6-3.
Having the first set in the bag, Richard played better, while Klizan's game declined. This combination resulted in Richard taking the set 6-2 which looks easier than it was in reality.
