After more than three years of working with Eric Deblicker, Richard Gasquet announced on 18 May 2008 that Guillaume Peyre would be his new coach.

Guillaume Peyre, aged 34, led Marcos Baghdatis to the Australian Open final in 2006 and is now coaching French player Nicolas Mahut, a cooperation which will continue.

The split seems to have occured in harmony. "Eric remains a friend and the one who lead me into the Top Ten" was to be read in written statement from Gasquet.
