Richard defeated the Russian qualifier Alexander Kudryatsev 7-5 6-3.

Due to delays caused by heavy rain showers, play was rescheduled completely. It was on a non-televised court, where Richard had to take on his opponent.

One break of serve in both sets sufficed to secure a 7-5 6-3 win in 70 minutes. Richard's next opponent will be Spaniard David Ferrer.
