Richard put Davis Cup and hopefully his ellbow problems behind him with a convincing 2nd round win against Olivier Rochus 6-2 6-1 in Metz.

Richard was more solid throughout the match than his Belgian opponent. He hit 10 aces and 8 backhand winners. Even two double faults in the last service game could not change the advantage he had carried from start to finish.

His next opponent is Gilles Muller
