Richard lost 4-6 4-6 1-6 to 5th seed David Ferrer. His next tournament scheduled is Montpellier.
It was Richard who had the first breakpoint in the first set, but good serving from Ferrer annihilated this chance. The Spaniard was more efficient when he had his first chance and took the first set 6-4. In the second set, Ferrer went up two breaks quickly, Richard got back both of them, but conceded his own serve right thereafter: 6-4 Ferrer.
In the third set, the Spaniard cruised to a 6-1 victory. Richard never seemed to play as freely as he did against Tipsarevic, his serve was less penetrating and the great heat did not help either.
