Richard won his first match on clay this year against Paolo Lorenzi and he did it convincingly: 6-1 6-1.
Richard could not play Mont Carlo due to an akle injury. Thus Estoril is his first clay tournament. Seeded Number 2 and with a first round-bye, he was never threatened by the Italian who faced breakpoints in almost all of his service games and was broken five times. Richard on the other hand, had to save only one break point and scored 24 winners for a comfortable 6-1 6-1 win in little more than an hour. His next opponent is the winner of Cipolla-Munoz de la Nava.
