Although apparently suffering from nerves, Gasquet produced a stunning display against Igor Andreev earlier today in the first rubber, giving France the lead in their Davis cup tie against Russia...

After an early break, Gasquetsoon found confidence, put aside his nerves, and playing outstanding tennis in his debut davis cup match. All match long he produced amazing shots, and even a wrist injury in the third set couldn't stop him

He was victorious 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(1) and celebrated by falling to his back on the floor, showing just how much it meant to him to win.

"I had stress cramps in my right wrist," Gasquet said afterwards. "I've been thinking of this match for the past 10 days, I've been so keen to play, and I think this can happen. But I'm so pleased to have won, I played nearly a perfect match."

Andreev was also impressed saying "I don't know what I could have done differently," paying a compliment to his opponent. "He was just too solid. He was too good."

Gasquet will next face Davydenko, who levelled the tie at 1-1.
