Richard started 2013 with a 6-3 6-4 victory in Doha.

Despite struggling at the start of the match, Richard won in the first round of Doha against Jan Hernych 6-3 6-4.

With 28 winners versus 15 UEs it was a convincing victory against the qualifier. Richard's next opponent is Grega Zemlja of Slovenia.
