Richard lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6 6-3 3-6 2-6. If he is selected for the team, his next match will be the 1st Davis Cup round against Israel.

Tsonga came out guns blazing and broke Richard straight away. Though Richard found his game, he could not overcome his disadvantage and lost the first set 4-6. Much better play from Richard in the second set which he won 6-3.

A lucky break for Tsonga in the early stages of the third set with two netcords in his favour gave him the third set. Richard's resistance was broken, and he lost the final set 2-6.
