Despite his 6-7 2-6 defeat in Cincinnati against John Isner, Richard will be 8th seed at the US Open.

Richard's defeat was again due to a poor first serve percentage. But his closest opponents in the ranking did not fare better and with Jo-Wilfried Tsongas absence in New York, Richard can attack the final grand slam tournament of the year from a TOP 8 position.

Richard had teamed up with Jérémy Chardy in the Cincinnati doubles, the pair won their first match against Baker/Ram 6-4 6-4, but had to withdraw in the next round due to a knee injury from Chardy.
