Richard's match against compatriot Sebastien Grosjean has been suspended due to bad weather. Richard had been serving for the set at 5-3 when the umpire called the players off.

Playing in the second round of the Rogers' Cup in Montreal, Richard had been playing some superb tennis against fellow Frenchman Grosjean. Two brilliant backhands saw Richard break serve at 3-2 for a 4-2 lead. A love service game consolidated the break.

However in the next game a tremendous black cloud approached the court and a thunderstorm started to rage. As forked lightening struck and the thunder bellowed Gasquet prepared to serve for the set at 5-3.

Unfortunately for Richard at 30-30 in the game, a particularly loud clap of thunder saw him miss his shot and set Grosjean up with break point. It was at this untimely point that the umpire decided it was too dangerous to continue with the players holding graphite racquets and suspended play at 5-3, 30-40.
