Richard lost to Roger Federer 1-6 2-6. He has been called up for the Davis Cup-tie in Nancy against Germany, starting on 4 April.

Richard never got a hold of this match against a revived Federer playing on a very high level. Richards' serve did no harm, his groundies neither and when he hit an excellent shot, Federer answered with a miracle and crused to a comfortable 6-1 6-2 victory.
