Richard defeated Ivo Karlovic 5-7 7-6 6-3 and will play Andy Murray for a place in the quarter finals of Toronto.
Karlovic is known for his height and his serve. In the first set, Richard could not do much and a poor service game with two double faults cost him the set. 5-7.In the second set, Karlovic's serve still dominated the proceedings. The ace count mounted. Richard managed to get to the tiebreak but had to suffer a minibreak. The Croate went up 5-2. Richard hold for 5-4, took two points from the Karlovic serve and sealed the set.
It might sound strange: Richard changed his shirt colour to red and was a different Player. He was never in danger on his own serve and broke Karlovic twice for a 5-7 7-6 6-3 victory.
