World number one, Roger Federer has ended Richard's debut in Indian Wells with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. It was a close match, but the Swissman edged out Gasquet.

Gasquet, in doubles action later, was never able to get a break point opportunity on the number one seed's serve.

Federer grabbed a break midway through the first set, and closed it out 6-3.

Gasquet held serve convincingly, until 2-2, when Federer sneaked another break. At 5-4, Federer showed his continuing dominance, serving out the match to love.

Richard's next tournament is TMS Miami.
