Sixth seed Richard Gasquet, the highest-ranked player left in the draw, was beaten by Robin Soderling in the quarter-finals of the Marseille Open.

Unseeded Swede Soderling beat home favourite Gasquet 6-1 7-6 (7-4) to earn a last-four clash against another Frenchman, Gilles Simon.

It was Soderling's second upset of the week, coming after he beat top seed Nikolay Davydenko in the first round.
