Mathieu gave France the lead with a 4 sets win, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 7-5 against Davydenko. Richard then lost a marathon five set match. Coming back from two sets down, Richard was unable to clinch victory in the fifth going down 6-2, 6-2, 6-7(8), 5-7, 8-6 against Youzhny.
