No. 8 seed Richard has received a bye through to the second round at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

In the second round on Friday, Richard will face Russian Dmitry Tursunov, who defeated Evgeny Korolev in the first round on Wednesday.

Should he win, Richard would face a possible third round clash with No. 32 seed Feliciano Lopez. He is seeded to meet Czech and No. 10 seed Tomas Berdych in the fourth round.

Other seeds featuring in Richard's quarter in the bottom half of the draw are No. 16 and last year's runner-up Guillermo Canas, No. 17 Fernando Gonzalez, No. 31 Igor Andreev and No. 3 -Indian Wells champion Novak Djokovic.
