The first set was dominated by the servers. Neither player had a break point and Richard won the set in the breaker. In the second set, Richard broke the American, but played a poor service game with two double faults to lose his advantage. The set went again to a breaker and another double fault allowed Sock to take the set. Linespeople were poor and both players challenged a lot, an whenever there was a close call, Richard was on the losing end. Sock broke once for a 6-7 7-6 6-4 victory.
