After a first round bye, Richard defeated Steve Darcis 6-1 2-0 ret. He reached the semis in a tight battle against his compatriot Jérémy Chardy 2-6 6-3 7-6.
Richard did not need to be in full flight against Darcis as the Belgian committed many errors while Richard was solid. There was no sign of an immediate injury, but Darcis retired after having been broken again right at the start of the second set.Chardy was a tougher challenge, he dominated the first set with his serve and forehand and won it quickly 6-2. Richard got his act together in the second set, he broke his compatriote twice and even if he had to concede one rebreak, he took the set 6-3. Richard also was a break up in the final set, but committed two DFs when serving for the match. However, he was there when it counted and won the final set in the breaker for a hard-fought 2-6 6-3 7-6 victory.
