Richard suffered a loss at the hands of Guillermo Canas in Miami. Richard was dumped out of the Sony Ericsson open in the third round, 7-6(3), 6-3.

Despite some brilliant shot making by Richard, he could not match the consistency of Canas, who was able to play the bigger points better.

Towards the end of the match, Richard was frustrated by line calls, and was unable to dig out more winners to save the match.

Both players served well, but Richard struggled to find the right tactics to out-smart Canas, despite some breath taking tennis at times.

Richard will now prepare for the Davis Cup quarterfinal against Russia.
